Kirby Sr. and Kirby Jr. have 30+ years of combined experience. Read below to learn more about this father-son duo that brings quality hair care and craft to Austinites.
Kirby Sr.
Kirby Sr. began his barber career at age 40 after years working in corporate sales.
He attended barber college in 2008 and quickly found his calling in the craft.
In 2010, he purchased Memorial Barbershop in Houston. A few years later, in 2013, he joined legendary Austin barber Charlie Hall at the shop on 7th and Brazos in downtown Austin.
In 2018, Kirby Sr. and Kirby Jr. purchased Charlie’s shop together, officially becoming Kirby the Barber & Son.
When the pandemic closed the doors of the downtown shop in March 2020, the two barbers re-emerged later that year from a new home base: their historic brick house in Hyde Park at 39th and Red River, across from Hancock Golf Course.
Today, Kirby Sr. continues the tradition of classic barbering in a quieter, appointment-only setting alongside Kirby Jr.
Kirby Jr.
Kirby Jr. started barber college the summer after 7th grade and has been cutting hair for over half his life.
Now 28, he brings more than 15 years of experience behind the chair.
By the time he was in 5th grade, he already knew he wanted to work alongside his father and carry on the craft. Growing up around the shop shaped his path early.
Outside the barbershop, Kirby Jr. enjoys motorcycles, water sports, video games, and tattoos. In the chair, he focuses on precision cuts and classic barbering done right.

All appointments are set for one hour to allow for ample time to give you the best haircut experience, from start to finish.

Our proprietary hair and beard product is crafted in-house in small batches right here in the shop.
Kowlick Butter isn’t sold online or in stores. It’s made with care for the people who sit in our chairs.
